GMC reg: 4258003Mr Shanmuganathan qualified from the United Medical and Dental Schools of Guy's and St Thomas' (UMDS) in 1995, having been awarded prizes in surgery and ophthalmology. He started his ophthalmic training in 1998 working in a number of ophthalmology departments across the UK and abroad. Following the completion of his ophthalmic medical training (which included time in research in his area of clinical practice, for which he was awarded a PhD in 2008), he undertook a further two years of sub-specialist fellowship training in cataract surgery, cornea and external eye diseases at Moorfields Eye Hospital. Thereafter, Mr Shanmuganathan was appointed a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon at Kings College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. In March 2017, Mr Shanmuganathan took up a new post as a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon at Kingston Hospital NHS Foundation Trust where he was appointed to run the corneal service and undertake high volume cataract surgery. In addition to his NHS practice, Mr Shanmuganathan practices privately at the New Victoria Hospital in Kingston-upon-Thames and BMI The Coombe Wing at Kingston Hospital. He is recognized by all major private health insurance providers.
