Mr Sushmith Gowda

Mr Sushmith Gowda is a Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic surgeon based at Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust. His interests are Orthopaedic trauma, primary hip and knee replacements.   Mr Gowda gained his undergraduate qualifications from Cardiff University and completed his foundation training at the University Hospital of Wales. He was awarded an Army cadetship as a medical student and later deployed to Afghanistan on operational duties. He continues to serve as an Army Trauma and Orthopaedic surgeon.   During his higher specialist training in Wessex Deanery, he was awarded the AO Trauma bursary to complete my Masters in Trauma Surgery (MSc) from Swansea University. Alongside his Masters degree, he completed a Diploma in Medicine in Conflict & Catastrophe (DMCC) to keep abreast of wider interest in humanitarian medicine and surgery.   Being appointed as the Ling Hip Fellow at the world-renowned Exeter Hip Unit was the culmination of his Orthopaedic training to pursue his subspecialty interest in primary and revision hip replacement. Under the tutelage of excellent trainers, he developed and honed his technical skills as a surgeon.   Mr Gowda continues to regularly publish articles and book chapters. He has presented at various regional, national and international conferences. He has been to SHOCK Trauma, Baltimore during his training. He was awarded the BOA Travelling fellowship award to visit Brigham Womens’ and General Hospital, Boston to learn more about robotic-assisted hip and knee replacements.   Mr Gowda strives for excellence as a consultant with a busy trauma and arthroplasty practice at Portsmouth NHS Trust. He is enthusiastic about quality improvement projects to improve patient care and education within the NHS. He is an active member of various professional societies - BOA, BHS and OTS.   Alongside his military and NHS career, he spends quality time being a hands-on father and a supportive husband. He has completed the London and New York Marathons. Now, he enjoys running half marathons and cycling. He plays tennis regularly and an avid rugby supporter.
