Dr Sothinathan Gurunathan

Dr. Sothinathan Gurunathan is a Consultant Cardiologist with many years of experience in the field of cardiology, particularly in advanced cardiac imaging and heart failure. He sees private patients at the Spire St Anthony Hospital and Mount Alvernia Hospital. Dr. Gurunathan earned his primary medical qualification at the University of Bristol, after which he undertook and completed a heart failure fellowship, and undertook research in complex cardiac imaging at Imperial College, and published his work in various renowned cardiovascular journals. He then undertook his subspeciality training at renowned London Hospitals, including St George's Hospital and St Bart's and St. Thomas Hospital, allowing him to experience excellent mentorship. Upon completion of his training and fellowships, Dr. Gurunathan was appointed Consultant in 2018 and has since become the clinical lead in cardio-oncology, being one of few specialists of this field in the UK. He specialises in reducing the cardiovascular side effects of cancer treatments and monitors patients who have previously undergone cancer treatment. Dr. Gurunathan is among the few clinicians in the UK that has a high amount of experience in complex echocardiography which includes transoesophageal echocardiography, stress echocardiography, contrast echocardiography and three dimensional echocardiography. His experience in cardiac imaging allows him to identify and diagnose a range of cardiac pathologies to enable his patients to be offered the best course of treatment.
