Mr Shameen Jaunoo

Mr Shameen Jaunoo is a Consultant General, Oesophago-gastric and minimally-invasive surgeon working at East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust where he is Upper GI and academic lead and Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer at Brighton & Sussex Medical School. He qualified from St Bartholomew’s & The Royal London medical school before completing his higher surgical training in the West Midlands where he trained extensively in hepato-biliary, liver transplant, bariatric and Oesophagogastric surgery as well as colorectal, vascular and trauma surgery. He completed his postgraduate research (with distinction) at the University of Edinburgh, has published extensively including several invited book chapters, has presented his research internationally and founded both the Warwickshire Surgical Research Collaborative and the Sussex Surgical Research Collaborative.   He has taught and examined at several medical schools including Oxford, Edinburgh, Warwick, Bristol, Birmingham and Brighton.  He was twice nominated for surgical tutor of the year at Oxford Medical School.  He is a JAG accredited Upper GI endoscopy trainer. He obtained his CCT in 2014 when he also entered the GMC specialist register, and spent 2 years as Senior Clinical Fellow at Oxford University Hospitals Oesophago-gastric Unit before being appointed as a Consultant in 2017. He has a wealth of experience in Oesophagogastric cancer resections, complex benign upper GI surgery, hernia surgery including complex abdominal wall reconstruction, gallbladder surgery and gastrointestinal surgery.  He has worked in the private sector since 2018. He has held several leadership positions including Upper GI lead, Academic lead, Governance lead, Trauma lead and Cancer MDT lead and is a member if the Court of Examiners at the Royal College of Surgeons.
