Miss Akbar has been a consultant Gynaecologist, Obstetrician and subspecialist in Reproductive Medicine and Surgery since 2005. She was trained in London.
Miss Akbar started as a consultant at King’s College University Hospital in London, and then moved to Luton and Dunstable University Hospital in 2008, where she is based now and working as the lead consultant for the fertility services and developed a dedicated brand new Fertility/IVF centre..
She is a keen teacher, international speaker and have research interests.
She is a member /fellow of the Royal College of Obstetrician & Gynaecologist London(RCOG), member of the British Fertility Society(BFS), British Menopause Society(BMS), European Society of Human Reproduction & Embryology(ESHRE), as well as a RCOG preceptor of Advanced Training Skills Modules in Fertility / Assisted Conception and Pelvic Ultrasound Scanning.
She possess counselling skills and qualifications, a qualification in Medical Education, training and qualifications in Minimal Access surgeries, as well as a Masters in Ultrasound scanning.
Miss Akbar is fluent in several languages and believe this benefits her patients by offering holistic care to those from different ethnic backgrounds.
She has been the Royal College Tutor and very much involved with teaching and training and was awarded a “Best Tutor Award” several times by UCL London. She regularly deliver lectures and present at local GP surgeries, in order to keep her colleagues at primary care with the recent advances and management in fertility and general gynaecology.
Miss Akbar helps with fund raising for cancer research and very much involved with radio shows on fertility at BBC and local radios.
In addition to her clinical work, Miss Akbar is also proud to be a member of Trust‘s Ethics committee, at Luton and Dunstable University Hospital NHS Foundation as well as the member of Trust’s Schwartz’ Committee and Educational Committee.
She is a trained appraiser and educational supervisor and involved with junior and senior colleague’s appraisal for The General Medical Council (GMC) re validation purposes.
Miss Akbar is PR (Personal Responsible) to Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority (HFEA)
Miss Akbar has written several articles on fertility management.
She undertakes regular patient's feedback / surveys on regular basis in order to tailor her services according to the needs and preferences of her patients and fertility couples.
