Mr Robin Kanagasabay

Mr Kanagasabay has been a Consultant Cardiothoracic Surgeon at St George's Hospital since 2002. He trained in medicine at Charing Cross and Westminster Medical School, with an intercalated BSc in Neurophysiology at Charing Cross Hospital and the Institute of Ophthalmology. Following junior medical posts in London and Guildford he entered general surgical training in London, Midhurst and Chichester. During this time he obtained higher specialist qualifications in both surgery (FRCS) and medicine (MRCP) with a view to a career in cardiothoracic surgery, a speciality where a broad knowledge of both surgical and medical diseases is uniquely important. He was appointed to the South West Thames Cardiothoracic Programme in 1995, rotating between St George's Hospital, The Middlesex Hospital (now the Heart Hospital), and Harefield. During this time he gained experience in a wide range of adult cardiothoracic procedures including coronary artery surgery (both on and off pump), VATS, valve surgery and heart and lung transplantation. At the end of the training programme he spent 1 year training in advanced arterial grafting and aortic surgery at the Austin and Repatriation Medical Centre, Melbourne, Australia under the guidance of Professor Brian Buxton. Special Interests include the use of arterial grafts for coronary artery surgery, and aortic valve surgery. He is the representative to the Society of Cardiothoracic Surgeons.
