Professor Mr Sanjeev Madaan

Clinical interests Professor Sanjeev Madaan is the lead cancer clinician at Darent Valley Hospital (DVH), Dartford and is an expert laparoscopic & Robotic surgeon. He has performed more than 800 major cancer operations (including prostate, bladder and kidney). Professor Madaan is an expert advisor to NICE centre for Guidelines and was involved in writing latest prostate cancer guidelines published in 2019. He is chairman of Urology tumour group at Kent & Medway cancer alliance. He has interest in teaching and is actively involved in the laparoscopic training. Professor Madaan is the deputy programme director for the MCh in Surgery (Urology) at the Institute of Medical Sciences, Canterbury Christ Church University. Innovation Professor Madaan established one stop cancer diagnosis centre at DVH. He uses innovative techniques like targeted prostate biopsy (fusion biopsy) for better detection of prostate cancer & blue light cystoscopy for bladder cancers. He also started various other new services at DVH including hyperthermia MMC for the treatment of bladder cancer and supported self-management for patients with prostate cancer. He is winner of ‘DVH hospital innovation and improvement award 2015’ for his innovation and introduction of new services. Research Professor Madaan’s commitment to evidence-based medicine is obvious in his passion for research. He did a research in prostate cancer at Imperial College and was awarded PhD. He has been involved in both clinical and basic science research. He has published more than 75 articles in national and international peer reviewed journals and presented at various international conferences. He is a regular peer-reviewer for journals. As a consultant he continues to be involved in clinical research. He is research lead for urology department and is a principal investigator for a large number of urology clinical research trials (Prostate cancer - PATCH, ADD-Aspirin, ARAMIS, An evaluation of a Prostate Cancer Survivorship Care Programme, CADMUS, PREDICT; Bladder cancer – BOXIT, HYMN, PHOTO, CALIBER; Kidney cancer - SORCE, Others - OPEN) with excellent recruitment record. He is CRN subspecialty lead for Urology cancer research in Kent, Surrey & Sussex and was previously Chairman of Urology Research and Trials group at Kent and Medway Cancer Research Network. He has previously served as a scientific member to the NCRI Prostate CSG (clinical studies group). Prostate CSG has the remit to develop portfolio of prostate cancer trials in UK. Awards Professor Madaan received various awards including Arthur and Violet Pane Memorial Research Scholarship, Ian Sunter Charitable Trust Research Fellowship, British Oncology Association Travel Award, Pfizer Academic Travel Award 2000, Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow Travel award and EAU scholarship.
