GMC reg: 2923738I completed a Bsc and PhD in biochemistry at Birmingham University 1973-1979. I published on the regulation of pyruvate dehydrogenase, an important enzyme in metabolic regulation. I went on to study medicine at Nottingham university 1979-1984 and from a very early stage knew I wanted to be a diabetes doctor. In 1992 I was appointed as a consultant diabetologist, endocrinologist and general physician to St Peters hospital in Surrey. I set up a diabetes service in the image of the St Vincent charter which preceded the NSF in diabetes. I was Clinical Director of Medicine for 7 years before becoming Medical Director (MD), a post I held for 10 years. I was also the Deputy CEO for 5 years during this time. As MD I was involved in the merger of St Peters with Ashford hospital (Middlesex) to form ASPH. I assisted in the public consultation for the subsequent remodelling of medical services. I was also involved in the successful FT application of the trust in 2010, where ASPH was the first trust to be licensed for 6 months following the mid staffs report and the first to successfully complete the Monitor clinical governance/quality assessment. I retired from NHS clinical practise in 2012 to further develop a portfolio of skills and experience. I am Currently in private clinical practice in Surrey where I specialise in treating patients with Diabetic and Endocrine problems I am an Independent Medical Advisor for Sanofi diabetes in the UK. Sanofi is a large international pharma company which is committed to become the UKs most significant diabetes healthcare company. I am a Non Executive Director of ASPH FT trust.
