Professor Jayanta Barua

Professor Jayanta Barua has been a consultant urological surgeon since 1996. He has held the post of Honorary Professor at Queen Mary, University of London. He has been an Honorary Professor with the American University of the Caribbean. He was previously Visiting Professor at London South Bank University; previously Training Programme Director and STC chair North Thames Urology registrars' training program; currently member of the Special Training Committee for urology registrars, pan-London. He was Director of Medical Education at BHR University Hospitals NHS Trust from 2015-2020. Professor Barua provides an excellent and highly professional service to patients with a wide range of urological conditions.  He has retired from the NHS in 2019 but has returned to work there in a part-time capacity to assist the local urology department with waiting list and outpatient clinic backlogs.  He continues to be involved in teaching and training junior doctors and also acts as a mentor to newly appointed and junior consultant colleagues.

General urology Basic male paediatric urology e.g. circumcisions, hydroceles, undescended testes, congenital hernia. I DO NOT see female paediatric urology and also DO NOT typically see "medical" urinary conditions of children such as urinary incontinence and UTI's (which are typically seen by consultant paediatrician colleagues).  Diagnostic pathways for all common urological cancers (kidney, prostate, bladder) as well as initial treatment for bladder and testicular cancer Diagnosis and management for non-complex urinary stone disease Urodynamics Urinary tract infection Benign prostatic enlargement/lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS)
