Professor Cyrus Kerawala

Cyrus Kerawala graduated with honours degrees in both medicine and dentistry from the University of London. He passed the Intercollegiate Examination in Maxillofacial Surgery in September 1998 and has been on the specialist register of the General Medical Council since August 1999. He worked as a Consultant at the Royal Surrey County Hospital in Guildford and North Hampshire Hospital in Basingstoke for eight years before joining the head and neck unit at the Royal Marsden Hospital in 2008. There he conducts a head and neck oncology practice with research interests focussing on microvascular reconstruction, marginal control of disease and trans-oral robotic surgery.  Cyrus Kerawala is author of a textbook on Maxillofacial Surgery and has written numerous chapters in other books. He has authored over 100 peer-reviewed publications and has contributed four national guidelines encompassing the full breadth of head and neck cancer multidisciplinary working. He devotes a significant amount of time to teaching, professional training and continuing medical education. He has presented over 150 papers at international and national meetings, and has been invited to lecture throughout Europe, the Middle East, America, Asia and Australia. He is currently the Clinical Lead in the Head and Neck Unit and Lead Medical Examiner for the Royal Marsden Trust.  Cyrus Kerawala is a Past President of both the British Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and the British Association of Head and Neck Oncologists, and a previous Chair of the Intercollegiate Board in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. He is currently a clinical advisor for NCEPOD and an associate advisor for the Health Service Ombudsman. He was the Clinical Lead for the NICE guidelines on head and neck cancer which were published in February 2016 and Chair of the NICE guidelines on oesopho-gastric cancer published in January 2018.
