Professor Brian Saunders

Professor Brian Saunders is a consultant gastroenterologist with a specialist interest in colonoscopy and polyp resection, based at St. Mark’s Hospital, London.  He is director of bowel cancer screening for NW London and sits on the national bowel cancer screening advisory committee. He has been involved in colonoscopy research and training for over 30 years and has published widely on many aspects of colonoscopy practice.  He is an editor of the book, “Practical Gastrointestinal Endoscopy ”, is a previous British Society of Gastroenterology Hopkin’s prize winner, has twice given the BSG Endoscopy Foundation Lecture and in 2023 gave the BSG, Sir Arthur Hurst lecture.  He was awarded an honorary FRCS by election by the Royal College of Surgeons in 2016 for his work into minimally-invasive polyp resection and is currently leading on the introduction nationally of optical diagnosis with a resect and discard strategy within the English Bowel cancer Screening programme.
