Dr Prab Prabhakar

Dr Prab Prabhakar is a consultant paediatric neurologist at Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) NHS Foundation Trust and Honorary Associate Professor in Paediatric Neurology at UCL- GOS Institute of Child Health. He qualified from Madras University in Chennai in 1993. He underwent training in Paediatric Neurology in London, and was appointed as a paediatric neurology consultant at Great Ormond Street Hospital in 2007. He is a general neurologist who sees a wide variety of childhood neurological illness including epilepsy, stoke, demyelinating disorders, head injury (both accidental and non-accidental), multidisciplinary assessment of complex neurometabolic and genetic conditions across the paediatric age range. He is the Clinical Lead for Paediatric Neurology and the Children’s Headache Centre at Great Ormond Street Hospital. He is a founding faculty of the CHaT (Children’s Headache Training) course developed through the BPNA (British Paediatric Neurology Association). He advocates for Childhood headaches through his work with organisations like BASH, IHS, Migraine Trust, Migraine Action and OUCH. His research interest are in the outcome measurement of headache disorders and the presentation of neuropathic pain in children. He has a particular interest in Medically Unexplained Neurological Symptoms. He developed and implemented a streamlined pathway for children with medically unexplained neurological symptoms – reducing the inpatient stay and time to diagnosis. He is the Lead for Post Graduate Examinations at Great Ormond Street Hospital. He is an Examiner for the MRCPC Exam and Assessor for the START assessments for the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health.
