Dr Perera, Withanage Dona Sithara

Graduated from the University of Colombo in Sri Lanka 1995 with MBBS honours. Completed MD in medicine which is a prerequisite to become a physician in Sri Lanka in 2002. Completed MRCP in 2003. Proceeded to higher specialist training in Diabetes & Endocrinology in North London rotation (Royal Free and University College London hospitals). Was granted dual accreditation in diabetes, endocrinology, and general medicine in 2009. In 2019, became a fellow of the Royal college of physicians (FRCP), London. Currently a Consultant in Diabetes, Endocrinology and General Internal Medicine at Broomfield Hospital, Mid & South Essex NHS Foundation Trust. Extensive experience in general endocrinology including thyroid, pituitary, adrenal, gonadal, neuro-endocrine and calcium disorders, with peri- and post-operative management. Significant experience in the long-term management of Type 1, Type 2 and other forms of diabetes and the lead consultant for the young adult diabetes service. Other interests include antenatal diabetes, diabetic renal disease, weight loss & GLP1 analogues, continuous/flash glucose monitoring, and Type 1 diabetes education.

Non diabetic hypoglycaemia (low blood glucose) disorders Metabolic syndrome, hypertension, fatty liver and cardiovascular risk reduction Endocrinology problems in cancer patients Lipid and cholesterol problems All aspects of diabetes: Long term management of Type 1, Type 2 and other forms of diabetes.
