Miss Neelam Potdar

I am a Consultant Gynaecologist and Sub-specialist in Reproductive Medicine and Surgery at University Hospitals of Leicester and Hon Associate Professor at the University of Leicester since 2012. I did my initial medical training in India and since 2001, I have trained in the UK including the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford. Over the years, I have gained extensive experience in caring for women with various gynaecology problems, have undertaken research and published in peer reviewed journals. My expertise is in Fertility assessment and treatment including IVF/ICSI, fertility treatment for women with endometriosis and PCOS. I have expertise is performing minimal access/keyhole surgery for management of heavy periods, ovarian cysts, endometriosis, pelvic pain and investigations for subfertility. I am passionate about caring for couples with subfertility problems and provide fertility tests and discussion for improving/treatment of fertility. I am experienced in looking after couples with recurrent miscarriages and offer investigations and consultation. I perform ultrasound scans for gynaecology if required. With my expertise in reproductive endocrinology, I provide care for adolescents, polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), period problems, Menopause and HRT. The surgical procedures I perform include MyoSure procedure to remove polyps/fibroids, abdominal myomectomy, laparoscopic hysterectomy, laparoscopic excision of endometriosis, laparoscopic removal of ovarian cysts and checking for fallopian tube function; a telescopic look-into the lining of the womb (hysteroscopy) to take a biopsy from the lining of the womb), and abdominal hysterectomy. I enjoy my work and care about patients. My aim is to provide the highest level of individualised care and enabling people to make informed choices according to their needs.  Having gynaecology or fertility problems is stressful and worrisome, I am a listener and easy to communicate with. If you are concerned about language, I speak English and Hindi, and understand Urdu and Gujarati.

Fertility: fertility assessment including tubal patency test, provision of IVF/ICSI/IUI and all other fertility treatments. Reproductive Endocrinology: PCOS, menopause, HRT Gynaecology: Heavy periods, fibroids, endometriosis, laparoscopic surgery and hysteroscopic surgery.
