GMC reg: 4615482I graduated from Glasgow University with distinction and honours in 1999. My general surgical training was completed in the Midlands and I became one of the youngest surgeons in the United Kingdom to pass the specialist exam in plastic surgery (FRCS-Plast). Whilst undertaking an intensive 6 year training programme in Plastic Surgery in the West Midlands, I was also awarded a Masters Degree in Medical Science with honours. In 2010, I was appointed as an NHS consultant at the new Queen Elizabeth University Hospital of Birmingham. In 2015, I left the NHS to join the private sector with a firm belief that the patient remains central to any treatment and with the right to expect a personalised service. I am on the General Medical Council (GMC) Specialist Register (#4615482) for Plastic Surgery and a member of the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS) and the British Association of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons (BAPRAS). I am trained in all areas of aesthetic and reconstructive plastic surgery performing the full repertoire of procedures. However, my specialist interest lies in aesthetic and reconstructive breast surgery, lymphoedema surgery and body contouring after massive weight loss. I had the privilege of completing a 6 month fellowship at the internationally renowned breast reconstruction unit in Gent, Belgium, with some of the world’s best plastic surgeons. The focus there was primarily on the latest techniques in micro-vascular free-flap and aesthetic breast surgery. I am one of the few surgeons in the UK performing DIEP flap breast reconstructions and lymph node transfers for lymphoedema. I am fully committed to helping lymphoedema and lipoedema sufferers by using the latest techniques in lymphatic super-microsurgery and liposuction. I am a regular contributor to work done with the British Lymphoedema Society and British Lipoedema Society. I recently completed two years as a BAPRAS council member with the responsibility of overseeing all plastic surgeons in the West Midlands. I am now the UK representative for the International Confederation of Plastic Surgery Societies (ICOPLAST). Also, I am the Royal College of Surgeons regional speciality advisor for plastic surgery and member of the British Standards Institute responsible for improving European and national safety standards in non-surgical treatment. This gives me a unique and important role in shaping the future of plastic surgery and regulation of the industry. Author of over 30 papers and several prestigious book chapters, I peer review articles for the major international plastic surgery journals. Being one of the few female consultants in the country, I have the advantage of approaching surgery from a female perspective in one of the most dynamic and challenging areas of medicine.
