Mr Olarinde came to Sheffield to train in ENT/Head & Neck Surgery after completing his basic surgical training in the West Midlands and Greater London. He trained in all aspects of ear, nose and throat surgery including head and neck surgery at The Royal Hallamshire Hospital Sheffield, Sheffield Children’s Hospital, Doncaster Royal Infirmary & Rotherham General Hospital. He received further subspecialist training in head and neck cancer surgery at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital in Sheffield. He was a visiting fellow at Kiel University Teaching Hospital in Germany where he received training in the resection of throat cancers with lasers. He has a keen interest in the conservative excision of tumours, training medical students and prevention of head and neck cancers. Mr Olarinde has attended (and continues to attend) conferences and meetings to keep up to date with evidence based treatments for his patients. He is a core member of the North Trent Head and Neck cancer multidisciplinary team that takes responsibility for working out the best treatment for every patient with a head and neck cancer in the region. He has been involved in audits with the multidisciplinary team and writing guidelines for treating complex cancers. He participates in entering clinical data in to a national database to compare practice with national standards.
Mr Olarinde is also a core member of the North Trent thyroid multidisciplinary team where the management of all thyroid cancers in the region is discussed. He regularly carries out thyroid surgery for patients with thyroid cancer, suspected cancer and patients with overactive thyroid glands where medication has failed to help. He also carries out all forms of parathyroid surgery on patients with raised calcium levels.
