Mr Vipul Patel

I am one of the most experienced shoulder and elbow surgeons in the Greater London area.  I joined Epsom and St Helier as Consultant Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgeon in 2001. I was instrumental in setting up the Shoulder and Elbow Service at St Helier hospital and introducing shoulder and elbow surgery to SWLEOC (South West London Elective Orthopaedic Centre). I offer treatment for all shoulder and elbow conditions using state of the art techniques. I am amongst the most experienced shoulder and elbow surgeons in London. I am passionate about training and have set up a BOA future leaders’ fellowship for senior trainees. My research interests include shoulder conditions such as rotator cuff tears, frozen shoulder and shoulder arthroplasty. I have collaborated on multi-centre trials on rotator cuff repair and arthroscopic subacromial decompression.  My work has been presented at national and international meetings and published in peer-reviewed journals.  I have held several positions of responsibility. At present I am the Medical Director for SWLEOC since January 2020. I serve on the Surgical Performance Committee of the National Joint Registry. In the past I have served as Clinical Lead for Orthopaedics and Trauma (2008-12) and Clinical Quality Lead for Surgery, Critical Care and Anaesthesia (2016-19).
