I have worked as a Consultant General and Vascular Surgeon at Arrowe Park Hospital on the Wirral from 1993 to 2017. I now work at Spire Murrayfield Hospital, Wirral and I also direct the Liverpool Varicose Vein Clinic in Rodney Street, Liverpool. Over the last 30+ years, the treatment of varicose veins has been my main research interest. I was the first author to describe 4 layer compression bandaging for the management of venous leg ulcers which is now considered to be the gold standard world wide. I was the first author to describe the improved results of surgically removing varicose veins by sequential avulsions instead of stripping of veins in 1996. This significantly reduced the pain of surgery, time of work and outcomes of surgery. I have helped pioneer the move to ablating veins through ultrasound guided techniques without a general anaesthetic.
