Simon is a senior and very experienced Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in disorders of the knee, shoulder, foot and ankle. Simon’s general medical training was at the Middlesex Hospital and his specialist Trauma and Orthopaedic training was at the prestigious Westminster Hospital Registrar programme and the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital Senior Registrar programme. In addition he did fellowships in The North Sydney Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Centre and the famous Southern California Orthopaedic Institute in Los Angeles. Simon has an interest in medical education and was a Lecturer at The Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital in London in the 1990’s. He was also appointed as a consultant at UCL in 1994 to develop their Sports Medicine service. He went into full time private practice in 1998 and is based at The Wellington Hospital where he has carried out some 10,000 operative procedures. He is the senior and founding member of the Wellington Hospital’s Shoulder Unit and Foot and Ankle Unit. He also helped develop the Sports Medicine service at the Wellington Hospital inviting and encouraging a number of sports medicine physicians to work in the hospital and develop their practices there where he works closely with them. His surgical special interests are in the development of new arthroscopic/minimally invasive surgery for the knee, shoulder, foot and ankle and to develop new and better techniques for reconstruction of these joints to help him treat his patients better. He is closely involved with the Arthroscopy Association of North America in Chicago and regularly attends meetings there and is in close liaison with colleagues from that association. He also has a close working relationship with Arthrex who are a large international Sports Medicine and Orthopaedic products company who are funding a research fellow for him. He is also interested in developing the use of bone marrow derived and fat derived stem cells for the repair of damaged cartilage and tendons. Outside of work Simon enjoys general fitness training, cycling, Yoga and skiing. He is also a keen conservationist raising money yearly for the European Nature Trust by supporting production of their wildlife films and doing charity bike rides to raise funds for TENT.
