Mr Nachiketa Acharya is a Consultant Ophthalmologist. He is a specialist Cataract surgeon and Clinical Lead for the Retina Services based at the Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust since 2008. Mr Acharya undertook his super specialist fellowships in Medical Retina at Moorfields Eye Hospital London and Aberdeen. He completed his specialist training in Ophthalmology in the West Midlands Deanery in Birmingham. Before this he had already attained an MD in Ophthalmology from the renowned All India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi. Mr Acharya has extensively published in peer-reviewed journals, looking into retinal vein occlusion and the socio-economics of age-related macular degeneration. At present, he is Principal and co-investigator in a number of clinical trials for retinal diseases. Mr Acharya is the Training Programme Director, in charge of training junior ophthalmologists in South Yorkshire region. He is also an educational supervisor and provides ophthalmology masterclasses for medical students. He is also an Honorary senior lecturer at the University of Sheffield. Mr Acharya is a founding partner of MyEyeScan, a specialist ocular imaging service. He is also a trainer on the microsurgical course conducted by the Royal College of Ophthalmology, London. Mr Acharya’s professional memberships include the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons, the North of England Ophthalmic Society, Yorkshire Retina Society and the All India Ophthalmic Society.
