I attended medical school at Cambridge University and graduated with First Class honours and a Distinction in surgery. I commenced my post-graduate Orthopaedic training at Addenbrooke's hospital, Cambridge and completed it in Newcastle Upon Tyne. I undertook an additional 18 months of advanced surgical training in Melbourne and Perth, Australia where I developed a special interest and expertise in hip and knee replacement. I was appointed consultant orthopaedic surgeon at the University Hospital of North Durham in 2005. I specialise in orthopaedic surgery and primarily perform knee and hip replacements and also knee arthroscopy. I am a committed surgical educator and researcher. I am College Tutor for the Royal College of Surgeons of England and a MRCS examiner for the same learned body. I actively research into the fields of hip and knee surgery and I am an honorary senior lecturer at Newcastle University.
