Mr Jonathan Bhargava

Mr Jonathan Bhargava is a Consultant ophthalmic surgeon with specialist expertise in oculoplastic and lacrimal surgery. Mr Jonathan Bhargava runs a busy oculoplastic service at the Countess of Chester Hospital where he is also the Royal College of Ophthalmologist's Tutor for trainee eye surgeons. He offers extensive expertise and experience in the treatment of all eyelid and lacrimal surgery. He also practices general ophthalmology including cataract surgery, the management of glaucoma and many other conditions. Mr Bhargava believes in offering a service of the highest quality to all his patients and giving every patient the time that they require for their consultation. Mr Bhargava practices privately at the Nuffield Grosvenor Hospital in Chester. Mr Bhargava graduated from Sheffield University Medical School in 1997 and, following a year as a general junior doctor (House Officer), entered training in ophthalmology in Taunton, Somerset. Mr Bhargava's specialist training continued at the Queen's Medical Centre in Nottingham until 2007. He learnt extensive general ophthalmology and spent 18 months pursuing training in oculoplastic and lacrimal surgery. Mr Bhargava also developed skill in cataract surgery and performed far more surgical procedures than the average trainee with satisfyingly low complication rates. Mr Bhargava then performed a Fellowship in oculoplastics at the Leicester Royal Infirmary, where, under the expert wing of renowned oculoplastic surgeon Mr Raghavan Sampath he vastly increased his surgical experience and also learned endoscopic lacrimal surgery which allows scar free treatment of the watery eye. Mr Bhargava then completed his training by undertaking another fellowship at the Birmingham and Midland Eye Centre before taking up a Consultant's post at the Countess of Chester Hospital in 2008. Since Mr Bhargava's Consultant appointment, he has established the in house oculoplastic service which offers a high quality service with short waiting times. He has introduced new techniques, including endonasal DCR to the department. Mr Bhargava has been appointed College Tutor for the hospital by the Royal College of Ophthalmologists and is responsible for the training, both medical and surgical of all the junior doctors in the Eye Department. Mr Bhargava offers specialist oculoplastic training to trainees about to become Consultants. He is a Council member of the North of England Ophthalmological Society.
