Mr Gibbs is a graduate of The Royal London Hospital Medical School, University of London. He was also awarded an MSc in Orthopaedic Engineering from Cardiff University. He has undertaken specialist fellowship training hip & knee surgery, pelvic & acetabular fracture surgery and limb reconstruction. This included a one year Trauma Fellowship in Waikato, New Zealand. Mr Gibbs is married with three children, so his main activity outside of work is trying to ensure that they don’t inflict serious harm on themselves when climbing, scooting, cycling, swimming, surfing, paddle boarding and generally doing what children do. He also acts as their personal taxi service.

Mr James Gibbs MB BS, Msc, FRCS (Tr & Orth) is a Specialist Consultant in Orthopaedics & Trauma in Surrey and Sussex specialising in hip, knee and sports injury conditions. He is one of the region’s leading Robotic Surgery experts and is an invited speaker in the field. He regularly manages hip and knee conditions along with sports injuries. He performs above average numbers of hip and knee replacements including Robotic surgery, partial knee replacement and hip resurfacing. He is also a specialist in redo joint replacement surgery. He also performs key-hole surgery and ligament reconstruction for soft tissue and sports injuries. He has an interest in joint preservation treatments for arthritis such as visco-supplementation and corrective osteotomy surgery. He has been an NHS Consultant at Brighton & Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust since 2011.
