GMC reg: 3561953I qualified as a doctor from Oxford University in 1991 and am a consultant ophthalmic surgeon with nearly thirty years' ophthalmic experience and have worked at consultant level in UK, Australia and New Zealand since 2004. I completed two subspecialty training fellowships, one in oculoplastics and another in corneal and refractive surgery, including corneal transplants. Most of my surgical work is in restoring poor vision using the modern cataract surgery techniques, but also in correcting eyelid malposition, where eyelids have begun to droop (ptosis), turn inwards (entropion) or outwards (ectropion). I also manage glaucoma and general ophthalmology. My experience in refractive surgery taught me a great deal about what patients want in terms of focus and relative freedom from spectacles and contact lenses. I even had LASIK myself in 2001. I have a degree in the History of Art and a diploma in yacht design. I enjoy music, sailing and running, without which I would be rounder than I currently am! I think that keeping active and busy is the secret to a fulfilling life and helping patients maintain their eyesight is central to this.
