Mr David Redfern is a Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon. He graduated from University of London in 1993 and gained a breadth of early surgical training including plastic surgery, neurosurgery, general surgery and emergency medicine. He demonstrated anatomy at Cambridge University and then returned to London to undertake higher surgical training in Orthopaedic surgery at St George’s Hospital. Mr Redfern completed a specialist fellowship in Bristol and also completed fellowship training at Johns Hopkins University, USA. He has been practicing exclusively as a specialist foot and ankle trauma and orthopaedic surgeon since 2004. Internationally recognised as an expert in minimally invasive foot and ankle surgery, he is creator of the MICA technique for minimally invasive bunion correction, now used worldwide. He has also pioneered other minimally invasive techniques for the treatment of arthritis of the foot and ankle, toe deformities, and complex foot and ankle deformities including adult acquired flatfoot. His minimally invasive techniques are applied throughout the breadth of foot and ankle and sports surgery. Mr Redfern regularly lectures internationally, is extensively published in his field, and has won numerous awards for his innovative contributions to foot and ankle surgery including a life-long membership of the German national foot and ankle society and a European Award in Medicine from the Professional and Business Excellence Institute. He has trained hundreds of surgeons worldwide in specialist foot and ankle surgical techniques. He treats all adults, from elite athletes to non-athletes, young to those in later life. He will always try to find non-operative solutions first. He remains at the forefront of state-of-the-art foot and ankle surgery.

Mr Redfern treats the full spectrum of foot and ankle disorders including bunions and forefoot problems, arthritis of the foot and ankle, sports injuries and trauma. He has a particular interest in less invasive surgical techniques and has delivered over 100 guest lectures worldwide on his foot and ankle surgical techniques. He has a world-wide reputation for developing minimally invasive and less invasive techniques. He is the co-creator of the MICA technique for the treatment of bunions and is one of a handful of internationally renowned specialists in minimally invasive surgery. He lectures and trains surgeons all over the world in these techniques.
