Mr McAlinden completed his specialist training in Cornea at the world-renowned Queen Victoria Hospital in East Grinstead. He was also awarded the specialist certificate in laser and refractive surgery from the Royal College of Ophthalmologists and is a Fellow of the World College of Refractive Surgery and Visual Sciences. Additionally, he earned a PGCert in Medical Education from the University of Cambridge. He has also spent time at the Harvard affiliated Massachusetts Eye and Ear hospital in Boston, USA. Mr McAlinden also has a strong research background with three research degrees – Masters, PhD and MD, as well as a post-doctoral research fellowship from Flinders University in Australia. He strongly believes that his role as an academic researcher enhances his skills as a doctor by fostering critical thinking, improving problem-solving abilities, contributing to medical and surgical advancements, and keeping him up-to-date with the latest knowledge and technology. Mr McAlinden has an H-index of 66 with over 190 publications in peer-reviewed journals. He has authored a number of book chapters and is frequently invited to lecture and teach at national and international conferences. He holds the position of Visiting Professor at the Eye & ENT Hospital of Fudan University in Shanghai and Wenzhou Medical University in Wenzhou, China. Mr McAlinden is the current treasurer of the British Society for Refractive Surgery and serves as a PROM advisor to the National Ophthalmology Database Audit for Cataract Surgery with the Royal College of Ophthalmologists. He supervises and trains junior doctors in the NHS.
