Mr Arj Imbuldeniya

Arj Imbuldeniya is a fully qualified Consultant Knee and Hip surgeon who helps patients with non surgical and surgical cutting edge, proven treatments. Mr Imbuldeniya was apponited as a specialist knee, hip and trauma surgeon by The Chelsea and Westminster NHS Foundation Trust in 2015. The majority of his work is at The West Middlesex University Hospital, London where his mother worked as a midwife and where he was born.  Dr Imbuldeniya graduated as a medical doctor in 2001 from St Bartholomew’s and the Royal London Hospitals Medical School, University of London. He spent a number of years training as a junior doctor at The Royal London Hospital. His senior surgical training was based in North West London including appointments at Charing Cross Hospital, St Mary’s Hospital Paddington and the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital.  Specialist fellowship experience   Prior to taking up his consultant post, Mr Imbuldeniya undertook international specialist fellowship training at the renowned Mater Hospital in Sydney, Australia where he lived for 1 year learning from the countries best hip and knee replacement surgeons. This year he was awarded the European Sports Knee Surgery (ESSKA) Travelling Fellowship to learn and operate with Barcelona’s top knee preservation surgeons in their knee unit. Specialist interests Mr Imbuldeniya is trained in and believes in the use of technology assisted surgery such as computer and robotic guided knee replacement surgery and has completed a Masters level degree in Global Health Policy from Imperial College, London, focusing on innovation in healthcare such as virtual fracture clinics.  He has expertise in keyhole surgery of the knee including ACL reconstruction, computer assisted partial knee replacement, computer assisted total knee replacement, hip replacement particularly in the younger adult and complex revision/redo hip replacement. He is studying regenerative treatments for the knee and hip including stem cell therapy, hyaluronic acid and growth factor treatments.  Professional memberships and affiliations  Mr Imbuldeniya is a member of The British Hip Society, and the British Association of Knee Surgery. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England and a qualified Advanced Trauma Life Support instructor for doctors.  Interests outside of work   Outside of work, he is a keen runner, and footballer and has spent time as a team doctor in the Australian National Rugby League and helping at Brentford FC. He has helped in projects to deliver high quality orthopaedic care in the developing world, and disseminate frugal innovation in Iraq, Uganda and Kenya recently.  Any free time he has is devoted to his 3 young children, 2 cats and 1 dog. He somehow crossed the finish line in the 2024 London Marathon so he understands what it means to be active, to train and to carry injuries and have pain. His goal is to use non surgical measures to get you pain free and active again.
