GMC reg: 4638829Miss Shams graduated with distinction from Guy’s, King’s and St Thomas’ School of Medicine in 1999, and became a member of the Royal College of Physicians of London in 2002, having trained as a physician at Guys and St Thomas’s Hospital, the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery and the Hammersmith Hospital London. Miss Shams undertook her ophthalmic training in London at Moorfields Eye Hospital, The Royal Free Hospital and The Western Eye Hospital. She became a fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists, London in 2011. Miss Shams has undertaken over three years (2010-2014) of fellowship training in oculoplastic, lacrimal and orbital surgery at world leading institutions for oculoplastic surgery; The University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada, The South Australian Institute of Ophthalmology, Adelaide, Australia, The Chelsea and Westminster Hospital London and University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City, U.S.A. In 2014 Miss Shams was appointed as a Consultant to the Adnexal Service at Moorfields Eye Hospital London where she offers a comprehensive service in all aspects of eyelid, lacrimal and orbital disease. Miss Shams is a full member of the British Oculoplastic Surgery Society (BOPSS), the American Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (ASOPRS), The European Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (ESOPRS) and the International Thyroid Eye Disease Society. She specialises in the treatments of conditions that affect the eyelids, brow, cheek, eye socket and tear duct system. Miss Shams has been actively involved in clinical research over the last 15 years and has contributed numerous peer-reviewed publications to the field of oculoplastic, lacrimal and orbital disease. She has presented her research at over 30 national and international conferences.
