GMC reg: 2850506Miss Fiona MacNeill MD FRCS, FEBS Fiona qualified from St Bartholomew's Hospital, London in 1983, obtained her MD thesis from the University of London in 1994 and has been a specialist consultant breast surgeon since 1996. Fiona practices exclusively in reconstruction and oncoplastic breast surgery, starting at Colchester (Essex), then moving to The Royal Marsden Hospital (RMH). She now works exclusively at The London Breast Clinic 108 Harley Street, operating at The Harley Street Clinic (HCA hospital). Her main interest is oncoplastic and breast reconstruction surgery – achieving the best outcomes in cancer surgery and breast appearance. She collaborates closely with her oncology colleagues to use the latest drugs and treatments to preserve the breast and the axilla (armpit) with less radical surgery. Working alongside plastic surgeons as the oncoplastic team she is able to offer a wide range of breast reconstruction surgery to maintain the breast shape and body image after breast cancer surgery. Other interests are the education and training of the next generation of breast surgeons and when Breast Tutor at The Royal College of Surgeons of England she established the UK sentinel lymph node training programme and oncoplastic surgery portfolio and delivered the first GMC recognized curriculum for breast surgery training. Her achievements in education were recognized in 2006 when she was awarded the Silver Scalpel Trainer of the Year. In 2014 she was awarded the Querci Della Rovere Prize for ‘Excellence in Cancer Surgery’ by European society of surgical oncology and the British Association of Surgery Oncology (ESSO/BASO). In 2018 she was the visiting professor of breast surgery at the MD Anderson Hospital, Houston, presenting her latest research projects. She was President of the Association of Breast Surgery (ABS) of Great Britain and Ireland from 2015-2017 and vice-president of the European division of Breast Surgery (UEMS) from 2016-23. Fiona demitted as vice chair of the MHRA BIA-ALCL committee in 2023. Fiona was National Clinical Lead for a major NHS standard setting and quality improvement programme in breast surgery (GIRFT) at NHS improvement in the Department of Health. Fiona is actively engaged in local and national research trials and lectures nationally and internationally on oncoplastic surgery, breast surgery training and changing role of breast surgery in the treatment of breast cancer and importance of multidisciplinary working and treatment planning in the delivery modern breast cancer care. She acts in an advisory capacity to a number of charities and Department of Health committees.
