GMC reg: 6134656Mr Hart graduated from The University of Edinburgh 2006 and completed neurosurgical training in Cambridge in 2020. During training he enjoyed a broad exposure to general and spinal neurosurgery. Following training he was appointed as a consultant neurosurgeon at St George’s Hospital, London, in 2021. Mr Hart's subspecialty is functional neurosurgery of which his interests embody the full sphere of conditions including movement disorders, pain, and epilepsy. He has pursued multiple fellowships both at home (St George’s Hospital) and abroad (Montpellier, France; Vancouver, Canada) to establish expertise in these areas. In addiction to his clinical work he is also a senior lecturer at St George’s, University of London. Maximising benefit and minimising harm in functional neurosurgery are the overarching background themes to his academic pursuits. He leverages cutting-edge neuroimaging methods (ultra-high field 7T MRI, connectomics) to understand both disease mechanisms and novel treatment targets. This work has led to numerous awards and substantive grant funding while also offering the opportunity to supervise multiple successful PhD students too. Translating the latest technological advances to produce improvements in patient care is a key part of how he links his clinical and academic practices. To do this he has formed judicious collaborations with industry in cell delivery in movement disorders and epilepsy, leading trials on novel electrode design for deep brain stimulation, as well as spearheading app development both for surgical planning (NetSym®) and appraisal of surgical accuracy in functional neurosurgery. Overall, Mr Hart's aim is to provide a wide-ranging practice in functional neurosurgery in addition to general cranial and spinal neurosurgery. His aim is to enable people to benefit from the latest clinical advances, research discoveries, and technological innovations. To do this he works closely within multidisciplinary teams to ensure people are comprehensively informed of their full range of treatment options and empowered to make the best decisions for them individually.
