GMC reg: 6029136Mr Nick Maycock has 20yrs experience in ophthalmology, specialising in cornea, cataract and refractive laser and lens-based surgery. He trained at Guy’s, King’s and St Thomas’ Hospitals Medical School in London before completing his higher ophthalmic training in University Hospitals Southampton (UHS) and the Wessex Deanery. Advanced subspeciality training and corneal fellowships were completed at the world-renowned St Thomas’ Hospital in London before being appointed as a substantive NHS consultant and clinical lead for the corneal service at University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire. It is the main teaching hospital for Warwick Medical School where he has worked as a clinical personal tutor and undergraduate examiner. He was awarded a distinction in the Ulster University postgraduate diploma in cataract and refractive surgery (PGDipCRS) and has since been invited to become a faculty tutor and visiting professor at Ulster University. He has been awarded the Royal College of Ophthalmologists certificate of laser refractive surgery (CertLRS). He has completed over 6000 vision correction procedures with outcomes exceeding Royal College of Ophthalmologists and other Refractive Surgery Associations Guidelines. His complication rate is exceptionally low (PCR or posterior capsule rupture: National average 1 in 100 vs. Mr Maycock 1 in 773). He regularly presents at National and International conferences and is actively involved in research having spent two years working in the pharmaceutical industry. Mr Maycock has over 35 publications and recently co-authored a leading textbook on corneal topography He is passionate about training the next generation of doctors and ophthalmologists. He is an examiner for the Royal College of Ophthalmologists and is a past member of their microsurgical skills training faculty. He is a past committee member of the UK and Ireland Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (UKISCRS) Young Ophthalmologist Program (YOP). When not at work, Mr Maycock enjoys travelling with his wife and young family. He is a keen cyclist, runner and skier!
