GMC reg: 4204767I qualified from the University of Leicester in 1995 and after after spending a year working in Australia I undertook my higher specialist training in the South Thames region including a period of time training in the prestigious Liver Unit at King's College Hospital. I developed an interest in diseases of the oesophagus whilst studying for my MD at St George's Hospital. I have been a Consultant Gastroenterologist for 16 years and I specialise in advanced endoscopy in the upper GI tract and diseases of the oesophagus and stomach. I run both the endoscopic resection service for early upper GI cancers and the oesophageal physiology laboratory at West Herts Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. My specialist area is the management of reflux, heartburn, Barrett’s oesophagus and GORD, but I have extensive and up-to-date experience of seeing patients with all GI conditions. During my 25 year career as a Gastroenterologist, I have performed over 10,000 gastroscopies and around 5,000 colonoscopies. I currently undertake approx. 700 gastroscopies and 200 colonoscopies per year, including advanced procedures to treat cancers in the oesophagus and stomach. I have personally performed around 2,000 oesophageal manometry and pH procedures and I now write reports for all the procedures done in my NHS Trust. I have been a trainer in endoscopy for 15 years and also teach on a number of nationally accredited endoscopy training courses including teaching other endoscopists how to train others. As well as a busy clinical job, I have been a member of the oesophageal committee of the British Society of Gastroenterology since 2016. I am now chair of this section and have published national guidelines on oesophageal manometry and pH monitoring as part of this group. Out of work, I enjoy spending time with my family, walking my dogs and partaking in sports such as golf, windsurfing and surfing.
