GMC reg: 4345697I am a consultant Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) surgeon and work at Spire Portsmouth Hospitals and Queen Alexandra, Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust. I have been a consultant for nearly 15 years and worked as a doctor in the NHS for almost 30 years. My specialist interest is otology, concerned with the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the ear. I have years of experience as a consultant surgeon and have performed thousands of operations. I treat children and adults of all ages for ear conditions and hearing loss such as grommets for glue ear, repair of perforated ear drums, cholesteatoma removal and other chronic middle ear disease treatment as well as otosclerosis management. I deal with hearing loss and complex hearing restoration surgery, including cochlear implantation. I manage dizziness from conditions such as Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV) and Meniere’s disease and can arrange MRI imaging for tinnitus and refer onwards for specialist hearing assessments and therapy. My practice also covers a wide variety of general ENT complaints such as ear wax, ear and sinus infections, nose bleeds, tonsillitis and other throat conditions. As a cochlear implant surgeon, I am fortunate to work with the wonderful Auditory Implant Service team based at Southampton University (US AIS). In addition to Cochlear Implants for patients with profound hearing loss, I also provide a wide range of surgical alternatives to hearing aids, such as Bone Conducting Hearing Devices and middle ear hearing implants. Prior to my current job in Portsmouth, I worked as an ENT consultant in Salisbury for over a decade. There I set up the local cochlear implant program, was the lead ENT clinician for the Spires children’s cleft lip and palate service twinned with Oxford, as well as the head of the ENT department for 3 years over the Covid pandemic. I completed my 6-year higher surgical specialist registrar training in Wessex, mainly based at large teaching hospitals in Portsmouth and Southampton and gained my Fellowship of the Royal Colleges of Surgeons (FRCS), a professional qualification to practise as a senior surgeon in the UK. Additionally, I benefitted from a rewarding year-long otology fellowship in Sydney, focused on complex ear surgery and cochlear implantation, before becoming a consultant in 2010. I am passionate about delivering the highest patient care. I won a 'Customer Care - Individual' highly commended award at Salisbury Foundation Trust in 2012 for excellent patient-centred care. I regularly attend national and international conferences to keep up to date with the latest developments and innovative treatments in ENT. Research remains vital to medical advancements. I have published numerous papers in peer-reviewed journals and given national and international presentations. I have collaborated with clinicians in related fields.
