Mr Hany Mostafa MBBCh, MSc, MD, PgDip, FRCOG has gained a wide experience in infertility and assisted reproduction over many years. He has been leading the fertility services in the North Tees and Hartlepool NHS trust since 2008. In addition, Mr Mostafa has worked as the Person Responsible (PR) of the Assisted Reproduction Unit (ARU) since 2010. Mr Mostafa offers private consultations at 3 locations: the University Hospital of Hartlepool, Tees Valley Hospital and Nuffield Health Tees Hospital. Assisted reproduction treatments, including IVF are delivered via a satellite model of care. Most of the treatment is carried out by Mr Mostafa and his team at Hartlepool, with the egg collection and embryo transfer then done at the LWC – Darlington. Background: His clinical and laboratory training for IVF & ICSI started in Essen, Germany, in 1998, parallel to his Medical Doctorate (MD) research. He then completed his formal training in infertility and assisted conception in the UK. Mr Mostafa became a fellow of the Royal College of Obstetricians & Gynaecologists in September 2017. Mr Mostafa masters different ovarian stimulation protocols including modified natural cycle IVF. He also offers complementary procedures like endometrial scratching, time lapse photography and recurrent implantation failure clinics. Furthermore, Mr Mostafa has also mastered the comprehensive investigation and treatment of different causes of female factor infertility, such as: ovulation (PCOS), tubal, uterine and endocrine problems. He is also experienced in the investigations and treatments of male factor infertility. He offers surgical sperm extraction including PESA vs Testicular Biopsy. In addition, minimal access surgery, an integral part of infertility patients’ care, has formed an essential part of Mr Mostafa’s practice. He offers minimally invasive surgeries like laparoscopy and hysteroscopy for investigation and treatment of different caused of infertility. Teaching and education are also passions of Mr Mostafa; he completed a Diploma in Clinical Education from Newcastle University in 2016, and teaches medical students as an honorary lecturer at Durham University.

Assisted Reproductive techniques: IVF, Modified Natural Cycle IVF, ICSI, Frozen embryo transfer, Fertility preservation including sperm and oocyte cryopreservation. Male factor infertility: medical treatment of male factor infertility, surgical sperm extraction including per-cutaneous epididymal sperm aspiration (PESA) and testicular biopsies for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes, and intrauterine insemination (IUI). Female factor infertility: ovulation disorders including polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), tubal factor infertility including tubal surgery for tubal block, uterine causes of infertility including hystroscopic surgery for uterine polyps, fibroids and congenital malformations. Also, diagnosis and treatment of endometriosis including surgical treatment of ovarian endometriosis (Endometriomas), ultrasound scanning for the pelvis and diagnosis of different gynaecological disorders including ovarian cysts and uterine fibroids. Furthermore, ovulation induction with Clomiphene Citrate (Clomid) and Gonadotrophins. Gynaecology: diagnostic laparoscopy and dye test, operative laparoscopy and diagnostic and operative hysteroscopy. Gynae problems such as tubal damage, pelvic adhesions and scarring, ovarian cysts, tubal reconstructive surgery, removal of diseased tubes and freeing of the tubes from pelvic adhesions, uterine polyps, sub-mucosal fibroids and cervical stenosis. Other gynae problems such as chronic pelvic pain, including pain caused by endometriosis, abnormal uterine bleeding and heavy periods, re-menstrual and peri-menopausal symptoms, vulval conditions including lichen sclerosis and vulval pain, and different types of uterine fibroids.
