Dr Ed Abrahamson

I am a general paediatrician, with 30 years paediatrics experience, 25 as a consultant. I specialised in Paediatric Emergency Medicine, where I founded and was Head of the Paediatric Emergency Department at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital 1995-2015 and continued until Summer 2020. My main clinical interest is in offering genuine all round care, looking at the family not just the clinical problem the child presents with, as they often overlap. I hold a Bronze Clinical Excellence award for service to the NHS which has just been re-awarded in 2018. I have written numerous papers, 2 books, and been a member of many National working groups, including the National Institute of Clinical Excellence. I am involved in post-graduate and undergraduate education (Imperial College). I was named as one of the top 100 children's doctors in Britain by The Times in December 2012. I am Vice President of the Cornwall Air Ambulance Trust.

I am a specialised in Paediatric Emergency Medicine and General Paediatrics within the NHS 1995-2020 I specialise in all aspect of general paediatrics including common respiratory problems (chronic cough, asthma and wheezing), gastrointestinal problems (feeding difficulties, reflux, constipation and poor growth), skin rashes, bet wetting, and all acute illness and infections, in addition minor trauma. I also perform all routine baby checks and immunisations if required. I have a holistic approach to paediatrics, and follow closely evidence based practice, and adhering to national guidelines where available. I have a natural bias away from giving unnecessary medications (e.g. antibiotics for minor viral infections) or performing investigations which have little expected benefit. However, I am passionate about ensuring all patients are fully immunised. I have a particular interest in antibiotic stewardship.
