Dr Zahed Ahmed

I graduated with a degree in Medicine from the University of Liverpool and went on to train in my chosen specialty of gastroenterology in Leeds and West Yorkshire. For family reasons I have now settled in Essex and am married with with two young children. I work full time in the NHS at Southend University Hospital which is a part of the Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation trust in the role of Consultant Gastroenterologist and General Physcian.

I am a Consultant Gastroenterologist and General Physician who trained in Leeds at St James Hospital and Leeds General Infirmary. I have a wealth of experience in gastroenterology including conditions such as irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), oesophageal disorders such as reflux (heartburn) and oesophageal cancer, dyspepsia (indigestion), bowel cancer, ulcerative colitis, Crohn's disease and coeliac disease. I also manage patients with diarrhoea and constipation. I am a highly skilled endoscopist performing safe and thorough procedures with minimal amounts of discomfort in procedures such as diagnostic gastroscopy, colonoscopy, and sigmoidoscopy. I have developed an expertise in a wide variety of advanced endoscopic procedures which also includes patients who referred to me to have large or complex bowel polyps removed. I carry video capsule endoscopy which is a minimally invasive method of looking at the small intestine to look for conditions such as Crohn's disease and bleeding coming from the small intestine. I diagnose and treat patients with inflammatory bowel disorders such as Crohns disease and ulcerative colitis.
