GMC reg: 2579476Infant and primary schooling West London, then Isleworth Grammar school. 1982 qualified in medicine with a distinction in Pathology from St Mary's Hospital medical school, Paddington, London University. 1982-85 general medical training in London and Bournemouth 1986 attained MRCP. 1985-1994 specialist training in Haematology (clinical and laboratory) in London (Hammersmith Hospital, St Stephens Hospital), Reading (Royal Berkshire and Battle hospitals) and Oxford (The John Radcliffe and Churchill hospitals); attained MRCPath. 1991-94 basic scientific research in Antithrombin deficiency as a Junior Wellcome research fellow; consolidated my interest and experience in thrombophilia, venous thromboembolism and anticoagulation 1993 attained JCHMT 1994-1997 Consultant Haematologist, West Dorset Hospitals; Haemophilia Director and Head of Anticoagulant services; latterly Head of Haematology department. 1997 to 2022 Consultant Haematologist Broomfield Hospital (Chelmsford; Mid and South Essex NHS Trust). Appointed as Lead Clinician for Haematological cancers and was Haematology MDT lead. Other senior positions held at Broomfield Hospital include Head of Haematology department about 15 years, first chairman of the Thrombosis Committee, member of Blood Transfusion committee, Haematology representative in hospital Undergraduate Faculty (medical students from Barts & the London and ARU medical School, Chelmsford), appraiser for consultant appraisals, member of the Systemic Anti-Cancer Treatment group, Haematology representative for electronic chemotherapy prescribing project and its implementation, Haematology representative on the Eastern Region Chemotherapy Board, Haematology representative on the hospital cancer board and was the last chairperson of the Essex network site specific group for Haematological cancers. I have participated in clinical trials since the mid 1980s and was the local Principal Investigator for a few trials at Broomfield hospital. 1997 to date Consultant Haematologist, Springfield Hospital (Chelmsford; Ramsay Health Care UK). Member of the Ramsay Systemic Anti-Cancer Treatment (SACT) committee. Assisted with many haematology SACT protocols as part of Ramsay's implementation of electronic prescribing system for cancer. 2021 to date Consultant Haematologist, Oaks Hospital (Colchester; Ramsay Health Care UK) I have been involved in teaching since I qualified. I continue to teach and educate, including medical students at ARU (see below) and chairing plus lecturing on the RCGP One Day Essentials in Haematology conferences since 2022 2020 to date Clinical Associate Lecturer at Medical School, Anglia Ruskin University (Chelmsford Campus). I have been teaching on the 3rd year block, as part of the faculty. Haematology - Clinical Haematology
Diagnosis and treatment of haemato-oncology disorders including non Hodgkin's lymphoma, Hodgkin's lymphoma, myeloma, plasmacytoma, amyloidosis, chronic lymphocytic leukaemia, chronic myeloid leukaemia, chronic myelomonocytic leukaemia, acute leukaemia, myelodysplastic syndromes, myeloproliferative disorders (polycythaemia rubra vera/primary proliferative polycythaemia, essential thrombocythaemia/primary thrombocytosis, myelofibrosis), hairy cell leukaemia, mastocytosis. Provision and supervision of systemic anti-cancer treatments (SACT) eg chemotherapy, immunochemotherapy, immunotherapy and targeted therapy for the treatment of haematological cancers as indicated above; at Springfield Oncology Centre at Springfield Hospital (Chelmsford) and Oaks Hospital cancer unit (Colchester) Radiotherapy is available at the radiotherapy unit (GenesisCare) in Springfield Oncology Centre at Springfield Hospital, Chelmsford Investigations for suspected bone marrow disorders, including bone marrow biopsy where indicated Investigation and assessment of anaemias, low white cells and low platelets including bone marrow biopsy where appropriate Inherited and acquired thrombophilia (tendency to develop blood clots) including antithrombin deficiency, protein C deficiency, protein S deficiency, factor V Leiden, prothrombin gene mutation, and anti phospholipid syndrome (APS). Inherited and acquired bleeding disorders. Venous thromboembolism (VTE) eg Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) and Pulmonary Embolism (PE) - diagnosis, investigation and treatment. Supervision of anticoagulant therapy with warfarin, direct oral anticoagulants ( eg rivaroxaban, apixaban, endoxaban) and heparins ( such as low molecular weight heparins eg enoxaparin (clexane) and dalteparin (fragmin) and unfractionated heparin. Haemochromatosis; diagnosis and treatment by venesection Venesection for polycythaemia and haemochromatosis. Provision of intravenous iron infusion treatment
