His research into the renal molecular physiology of calcium stone disease was funded by a personal Fellowship from the Wellcome Trust and led to his PhD thesis. Dr Moochhala runs a general nephrology and hypertension clinic, and a metabolic stone clinic. He has a special interest in the metabolic investigation of renal stone disease, other renal tubular and electrolyte disorders, and renal aspects of other rare metabolic diseases. He is conducting research into both common and rarer types of stone disease, and is involved in setting up international partnerships to conduct research into rare stone diseases. He is a member of the UK Kidney Association and a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh.
