GMC reg: 3437962Ruth Pettengell is a Reader in Clinical Sciences at St George?s, University of London, UK and an honorary consultant in Haemato-Oncology at St George?s University of London. She started her medical career in New Zealand, where she specialised in medical oncology before moving to the UK to complete her PhD on the characterisation and clinical uses of blood progenitor cells at the University of Manchester. During this time she developed protocols for high-dose therapy and stem cell transplantation. Following this, Dr Pettengell took a Senior Clinical Research position in the Department of Developmental Hematopoiesis at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, New York, USA, where she studied the interactions between haemopoietic progenitor cells and bone marrow stroma. Her current research interests focus on aggressive lymphoma, novel agents and haematological toxicities. She is a member of the EORTC working party who formulated European guidelines for the use of G-CSF to reduce the incidence of chemotherapy-induced febrile neutropenia in adult oncology patients. Dr Pettengell is the author or co-author of over 170 peer-reviewed articles, book chapters and editorials in the fields of haematology and oncology. She is a member of several professional associations and clinical research collaborative groups as well as a member of numerous advisory groups including the Lymphoma Association Medical Advisory Panel.
