Dr Robin Cooper

I grew up in the Wye Valley in Gloucestershire before commencing my medical training at St Georges Hospital Medical School in London. After qualification I undertook medical, paediatric and anaesthetic jobs South West England and Australia. I was appointed as a Consultant Anaesthetist in Gloucestershire in 2000. I have lived in Cheltenham for the past twenty years with my wife, three daughters and two dogs. Outside work I am a keen cyclist, I enjoy running and walking with our dogs and I struggle to improve my cooking skills. I have previously been responsible for appointing and assessing the anaesthetic trainees in the South West of England and I am now Chairman of the Medical Local Negotiating Committee for Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, a role I have filled for the last 10 years.

I am a full time NHS consultant who also provides anaesthetic services for private patients in several Gloucestershire hospitals. I anaesthetise both adults and children for a wide range of surgical specialties including orthopaedic, vascular, general, urological, gynaecological and plastic surgeries. I have specialist skills in paediatric anaesthesia and Regional anaesthesia (local anaesthetic nerve blocks that may allow awake surgery or to provide prolonged pain relief post operatively).
