Dr Nigel Arden

Professor Arden trained at St Thomas 's Hospital, London, where he also completed four years research into the genetics of osteoporosis and gained an MSc in Epidemiology and an MD. In 1998 he spent six months as visiting assistant Professor in Epidemiology at the University of San Francisco. In February 2000 he commenced his post as Consultant Rheumatologist at Southampton General Hospital , where is now a Professor in Rheumatic Diseases at the University of Southampton , leading a large research programme into osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis and osteoporosis. He is also a Professor of Rheumatic Diseases and Director of musculoskeletal Epidemiology at the University of Oxford and an Honorary Consultant in Rheumatology at the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre in Oxford . He is: An international Osteporosis Foundation Scientific Ambassador A member of the Scientific Advisor Board of the European Society for Clinical and Economic Aspects of Osteoporosis, Osteoarthritis and Musculoskeletal Diseases A member the National Osteporosis Society Advisory Board A member of Osteoarthritis Research Society International Clinical Guidelines Committee Research He sits on several national and international boards helping to improve the treatment and research agenda into osteoarthritis. He has written 7 books and published over academic 300 papers.
