Dr Michael Stewart

Dr Stewart has 16 years of experience as a Consultant and has a busy NHS practice covering all aspects of general cardiology. His cardiology/General Medicine training was undertaken with the Royal Navy where he served for 22 years and included training attachments at the Wessex Cardiac Centre in Southampton and at the Royal Brompton Hospital London. He started his current NHS post in Portsmouth in 2005 and has ben involved in private medical practice since. He undertakes procedures in echocardiography including trans-oesophageal echocardiography and is an expert in the management of valvular heart disease. He also specialises in the investigation and management of syncope and blackouts and performs in excess of 200 pacemaker implants per year He has extensive experience in cardiac pharmacology and is chairman of the Portsmouth Hospitals Formulary and Medicines committee Dr Stewart also practices in General Medicine and his duties include working as general physician the emergency medical unit. Outside work he is married with two sons who have both qualified as Doctors and are undertaking Specialist training. He is a keen walker, runner and diy enthusiast and enjoys spending a significant amount of his leisure time in central France
