Dr Mark Westwood

I was appointed as a Consultant Cardiologist in 2009. I currently work at St Bartholomew's Hospital, Europe's largest cardiovascular centre. I undertake all aspects of general cardiology which includes the assessment and treatment of patients with chest pain, shortness of breath and palpitations. I have a particular interest in imaging of the heart using magnetic resonance scanning (called CMR or cardiac MRI). I am currently Vice President of the national society for Cardiac MRI in the UK and I have held several roles in the European Society and International (worldwide) Society for CMR. I previously developed the entire CMR service at the London Chest Hospital from scratch into one of the UK's largest such services before I moved to St Bartholomew's Hospital in 2015. In 2018 I was elected President of CESMA, a European advisory council on postgraduate assessment (assessment of Doctors in training) across all medical and surgical specialties. I also currently lead the multiple certification and accreditation programmes in non invasive imaging of the heart (such as cardiac CT and CMR) for the whole of Europe through my roles in the European Association of Cardiovascular Imaging (EACVI). I am currently the Vice President of the Specialty Advisory Committee for Cardiology for the UK which leads training for cardiology Doctors in training for the whole of the UK. More locally I am the Director of Medical Education at St Bartholomew's Hospital, leading the training and development of over 150 Junior Doctors who work in the hospital.

I treat all general cardiology conditions. I have a particular interest in using magnetic resonance imaging (called CMR) and CT imaging of the heart.
