Dr David Ramsdale

I received an Honours BSc in Anatomy from Manchester University in 1972, MB ChB in 1975, MRCP in 1978, MD in 1981 and FRCP (UK) in 1983. I am a Member of the British Cardiovascular Society, the British Cardiovascular Intervention Society and HeartUK, have over 150 publications and 150 presentations to learned Societies. I have written 12 book chapters in Cardiology textbooks and published 6 textbooks in both general medicine and cardiology. My most recent book "Cardiac Pacing and Device Therapy" reflects my vast experience in pacing over a 35 year period whilst three books on Interventional Cardiology reflect my widespread experience in this subspecialty since I introduced PTCA to Liverpool in 1983. I have been a Consultant Cardiologist in the Tertiary Centre (now called Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital) since 1987, Chairman of the division of Cardiology, Director of the Cardiac Catheterisation and Intervention Labs and Chairman of the Board of Clinicians. Over the last 30 years I have raised over £1.5Million for the Centre via The Heart Appeal charitable Trust.

My specialist interest is in Percutaneous Coronary Artery Intervention, PTCA and coronary artery stent implantation. I am experienced in coronary atherectomy and in coronary artery imaging and physiology. My particular interest has remained in acute coronary artery syndromes including acute MI, non-STEMI and unstable angina and I was the first to introduce PTCA for acute MI to Merseyside in the mid 1980s. My non-intervention expertise is in valvular heart disease, arrhythmias, heart failure and infective endocarditis as well as familial hypercholesterolaemia and cardiomyopathies. I have a particular interest in the cardiac care of professional footballers and am a current member of the FA's Cardiology Consultants Consensus Group.
