Dr Chetan Varma

Dr Varma undertook his undergraduate and postgraduate training in medicine in London at centres of excellence. He worked with internationally renowned experts in management of hypertension in the hypertension unit at St George’s Hospital, London. He is an expert in treating difficult to manage hypertension. He worked in the world renowned Royal Brompton Hospital, London with leading experts in their fields. He also underwent a training fellowship in cardiac interventions in Toronto and underwent high level training in coronary interventions. His Doctorate in Medicine was in heart failure and cardiac resynchronisation therapy (St Geroges Hospital, University of London) and he was one of the first in the country to publish internationally in this field. He then moved to Birmingham as a Consultant Cardiologist and has a successful career in managing all types of cardiac pathology. In particular he has developed an interest in diagnosing and treating microvascular angina. He also has expertise in diagnosing and managing POT syndrome. In addition he has helped develop the teaching curriculum for undergradustes with the University of Birmingham, has successfully supervised postgraduate degrees in cardiology and is now Group Director for Medicine and Emergency Care at the large teaching Sandwell and West Birminghams NHS Trust, for which he heads multiple medical specialties.
