Dr. Asif Mahmood is a consultant Gastroenterologist based in SW London and Surrey, UK. He practices at a number of hospitals in Surrey and South West London. Dr. Mahmood is skilled and experienced in all aspects of gastroenterology as well as hepatology and endoscopy. He is fluent in English, Punjabi, Gujarati, and Urdu, which can be extremely helpful for patients who may not have English as their primary language. Dr Mahmood’s education began at the University of Leicester Medical School, with an MB ChB in 1995. He then gained extensive post-graduate experience in many London teaching hospitals including St. George’s Hospital and Hammersmith Hospital Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust. He further went on to receive an MD from that same institution in 2007 for his “research” on the mechanisms of gut repair following injury, such as Inflammatory Bowel Disease or following the prolonged usage of NSAID pain relievers. In 2012, Dr. Mahmood received the honour of being inducted as a Fellow in the Royal College of Physicians. He has also been bestowed with numerous other accolades, including the Kingston Trust Research Award, grants for research from the Digestive Diseases Foundation, and a research award from the European Gastroenterology Foundation. Doctor Mahmood maintains an active interest in publishing, with several original papers appearing in peer-reviewed journals. He has also presented several original abstracts at various international conferences. He is a member of the British Medical Association and the British Society of Gastroenterology.
