Haematology - Paediatric Haematology
Hindi
Dr. Anupama Rao is a Consultant Haematologist at Great Ormond Street Hospital London. She is a Chief Investigator on a NIHR Translational Research Collaboration Project in Rare Haematological Diseases. She has a keen interest in the diagnosis of children with rare haematological disorders and has championed the incorporation of targeted next generation sequencing as a frontline diagnostic test. Her research interests have led to a fruitful collaboration between Great Ormond Street Hospital and Weatherall Institute of Molecular Medicine, Oxford in stem cell biology of children with rare pre-malignant haematological disorders. Her focus of research is two-fold: to describe and interrogate the patterns of heterogeneity in rare haematological malignancies with a clear aim to identify novel and ‘old ‘ therapies to reduce the risk of disease progression and evolution. She has invested time and effort to collaborate with parents keeping them informed about scientific progress in the field and this has initiated the development of a parent group for children with rare haematological malignancies. She tirelessly highlights the importance of rare disease research and its contribution to the understanding of leukemogenesis.
