Dr Antony Ellis

Dr Ellis trained at St. Thomas's Hospital Medical School in London and qualified in 1987. He undertook his postgraduate specialist training at King's College Hospital, London. He was also an honorary Senior Registrar at Saint Mark's Hospital in Harrow. He was appointed as a Consultant Physician with an interest in Gastroenterology and Hepatology to the Oxford University Hospitals in March 1998. He was lead colonoscopist for the Oxford Bowel Cancer Screening Programme from inception in 2009 to 2023. He has a major interest in education. He was the training program director (TPD) for the Oxford Deanery between 2006-2011. He subsequently became the chair of the Specialist Advisory Committee for Gastroenterology at the Royal College of Physicians London, and was responsible for UK training in gastroenterology and hepatology between 2012 and 2018. He co-wrote the UK gastroenterology curriculum in 2009 and contributed to the latest update in 2021. He was Chairman of The Oxford Gut Club between 2012-2018 He was involved in the writing and delivery of the specialty certificate examination in gastroenterology from inception in 2009. He has sat on the college board for this exam and is currently a member of the standard setting committee which grades the difficulty of each annual exam. He has been appointed as the British Society of Gastroenterology (BSG) UK rep to the European Board of Gastroenterology and Hepatology (EBGH). He edited The Blue Book which is the European curriculum for gastroenterology and hepatology in 2023. When not at work he enjoys many sports including road cycling, tennis, and sailing
