Short service Royal Naval commission 1988-1994: served in Falkland Islands, Persian Gulf and Royal Naval Hospitals Haslar, Stonehouse and Gibralter. Commander in Chief Fleet commendation 1991. Membership of Royal College of Physicians, UK 1993. Rejoined NHS 1994 to start Specialist Registrar training in Cardiology. Commenced research period aiming for MD degree, University of Manchester, January 1999. Research interests: autonomic function in relationship to cardiac arrhythmias and mechanisms of syncope. CCT in Cardiology and G.I.M. 2003. Consultant in Cardiology with an additional interest in arrhythmias, blackouts, cardiac pacing and implantable defibrillators at Salford Royal Hospital since 2003. Accreditation in Cardiac Rhythm Device Therapy – Heart Rhythm Society. 2007 Arrhythmia Clinical Lead for the former Greater Manchester and Cheshire Cardiac Network. Responsible for Network guidelines on the management of atrial fibrillation, anticoagulation in atrial fibrillation and the role of the new oral anticoagulants.
