Norman Williams was Professor of Surgery at Barts and The London, Queen Mary’s School of Medicine and Dentistry, Honorary Consultant Surgeon at Barts and The London, Director of the National Centre for Bowel Research and Surgical Innovation and Past President of The Royal College of Surgeons of England.
In 2106 he led an independent commission on Education and Training for Patient Safety for Health Education England. He was Senior Clinical Advisor to the Secretary of State for Health (2015-18), chaired the Rapid Review of Gross Negligence Manslaughter (2018) and was a non -executive director of St George’s NHS Foundation Trust (2016- 19). He is now Chair of the National Consultant Information Programme (NCIP),Chair of the Independent Reconfiguration Panel (IRP) and President of Bowel Research UK. He was knighted for services to surgery in the 2015 New Year’s Honours List.
